Minister Biruta Chairs Various Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting as part of CHOGM 2022
During this week-long meeting of the Commonwealth Head of States and Governments meeting, on 24 June 2022, Minister Biruta co-chaired the pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting, preceding the CHOGM executive session and the Retreat.
On the day, Minister Biruta co-chaired the Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting on Small States. The meeting serves as a platform for thirty-two small states to identify practical ways the Commonwealth can contribute to a strengthened global response to the challenges they face. They are particularly vulnerable because of their: geographic positioning strong dependence on trade limited access to development finance disproportionate impact of natural disasters and climate change
On the evening of 24 June 2022, Minister Vincent Biruta and his Bangladesh counterpart Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen jointly chaired a Kigali high-level Dialogue under the theme “Rethinking Mental Health: A Commonwealth call to Empower, Care and Transform” on the sidelines of the CHOGM2022
