Minister Sezibera briefs Media on Security Situation in Rwanda and the Region

Kigali, 30 April 2019 - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Government Spokesperson Dr. Richard Sezibera held a press briefing with local and international media. The presser covered security situation in Rwanda and the region.

Minister Sezibera emphasized on issues raised during a briefing with members of the diplomatic corps based in Rwanda, earlier on before the press briefing, to update them on the current state of security. He said that the government assures Rwandans, other residents and visitors that the country is safe for travel, tourism and business.

Addressing the travel advisories that were issued by some countries, Minister Sezibera said that some of the advisories were ill-informed. ‘’First, some of the advisories are ill-informed or influenced by armed groups' claims. Second, some regional media have been exaggerating Rwanda’s risk level. Third, many tourists continue to come in because they know Rwanda is safe and secure’, said Minister Sezibera.

On the rebel groups’ leaders based in Europe harboring to undermine Rwanda’s security, Minister Sezibera called upon countries to either prosecute or extradite them. He said: leaders of terrorist groups are moving freely and making statements from Europe, Canada (some having the nationality) and are not held accountable for their criminal activities. This is unacceptable. We ask these countries to either prosecute or extradite them.

End.
