Rwanda and European Union hold Political Dialogue

Kigali,26 February 2019 - Rwanda and the European Union reconfirmed their close partnership in a Political Dialogue meeting.

Co-chaired by Rwanda Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Richard Sezibera and Ambassador Nicola Bellomo, Head of EU Delegation to Rwanda, the meeting was held in accordance with Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement and forms part of regular political dialogue between Rwanda and the EU on on global, regional and national issues of mutual interest.

Minister Sezibera reiterated the importance of this yearly forum in which both parties come together to discuss frankly and openly the partnership at bilateral, regional and global levels.

He added that the government of Rwanda remains committed to this meaningful partnership that is helping to achieve ‘’our transformational agenda’’. ‘’Beyond that, GoR is committed to developing strong economic ties with the EU in the spirit of the first priority area of the Abidjan Declaration, namely, sustainable and inclusive growth, economic transformation and development’’, said Minister Sezibera.

Ambassador Nicola Bellomo emphasized that the European Union looks forward to continuing engagement on national, regional, continental and global issues.

The topics for the political dialogue ranged from business climate, trade and investment, Rwanda-EU partnership to matters of rule of law and governance as well as regional and continental issues.
